Mission Statement

Purpose

The World Federation of Chinese Traders Association was established to maintain connections among overseas Chinese business participants who have taken part in economic and trade training programs organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council. It promotes exchange and cooperation among Chinese business communities at home and abroad, supports shared business development, and helps strengthen economic and trade relations between Taiwan and countries around the world.

History and Development

The World Federation of Chinese Traders Association (WFCTA), in Chinese 世界華商經貿聯合總會, was originally known as the Global Chinese Business Economic and Trade Friendship Association and was established in Taipei in March 1999.

In its early years, the organization’s membership was composed mainly of participants in training programs organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council, including seminars for overseas Chinese association presidents, technical observation programs, business-management courses, e-commerce programs, and other professional training activities.

After returning to the countries and regions where they lived, participants maintained contact and developed ongoing exchanges with one another, supported by participant information provided through the Overseas Community Affairs Council. Over time, these relationships contributed to the formation of regional, continental, and global-level associations.

As circumstances evolved, the Federation recognized the need to move beyond a structure based primarily on alumni networking. In 2013, during the presidency of 吳毓苹 (Wendy Wu), the organization formally transformed and adopted its present name, World Federation of Chinese Traders Association.

Since then, WFCTA has continued to promote cooperation among overseas Taiwanese and Chinese business communities, support the development of business opportunities, and encourage participation in international economic and trade markets. The Federation has now been active for more than twenty years and is one of the three major global overseas Taiwanese business-association systems supported by the Overseas Community Affairs Council.

Global Network

The World Federation of Chinese Traders Association currently brings together five continental federations representing North America, Asia, Europe, Central and South America, and Oceania.

Each continental federation includes affiliated member organizations in its respective countries and regions. Together, these networks provide a framework for communication, exchange, cooperation, and the development of business opportunities among overseas Taiwanese and Chinese business communities around the world.

Through this global structure, WFCTA helps connect business leaders and organizations across regions while supporting the broader goal of strengthening international economic and trade relations.
